AI & Automation
AI Automation Engineer
- Location
- Remote within the EU, optional desk in Berlin
- Employment
- Full-time, permanent; freelance possible for the first three months
The role
You build AI systems that go into production, not demos. That means retrieval pipelines on client documents, voice agents on real phone lines and workflow automations between CRM, ERP and mailbox. You are expected to measure quality with an evaluation set before anything reaches a customer.
What you will do
- Design and ship retrieval-augmented systems on client document collections
- Build and tune voice agents for German inbound calls, including handover logic
- Automate business workflows between CRM, ERP, e-mail and calendar systems
- Create evaluation sets and run regression tests before every model or prompt change
- Monitor cost, latency and error rates in production and keep them within budget
- Document data flows for the GDPR record of processing activities
What we expect
- At least three years of backend or data engineering, ideally in Python or TypeScript
- Practical experience with vector search, embeddings and prompt engineering
- Understanding of API integration, queues, retries and idempotency
- Ability to judge honestly when a rule-based solution beats a model
- Awareness of GDPR constraints when processing personal data with AI providers
- German at B2 level and English at C1 level
What we offer
- Gross annual salary of 68,000 to 88,000 EUR depending on experience
- A monthly model and API budget for your own experiments
- Remote work anywhere in the EU with four team meetups per year
- Time-boxed research days: one day every sprint for evaluation and tooling
- Direct influence on which AI projects we accept and which we turn down
- 30 days of holiday and a home office allowance of 1,000 EUR every two years
